Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Hendropriyono stated that his ministry is ready to integrate the environmental curriculum of its environmentally-friendly school program, Adiwiyata, into the government's tuition-free school program, Sekolah Rakyat.

Hendropriyono confirmed here on Wednesday that the curriculum is planned to be integrated under the collaboration of the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

"The Ministry of Environment has the Adiwiyata program for schools. The ministry is very open to collaborating on this program with Sekolah Rakyat," he said after a visit to two Sekolah Rakyat schools in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday.

The collaboration is expected to not only create Sekolah Rakyat schools that excel in the academic field but also in environmental management.

According to him, there are several environmental issues that the younger generation is facing, such as the waste problem, which has been a big challenge in Indonesia, as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation.

To improve the schools' environmental awareness, during his visit, the deputy minister also handed over supplies like water bottles, environmental guidebooks, and bags to support an environmentally-friendly lifestyle.

With the plan of integrating the Adiwiyata program into Sekolah Rakyat, he expressed his commitment to making Sekolah Rakyat a model of sustainable education.

"We all have the responsibility to leave a better world for future generations," he remarked.

Sekolah Rakyat is part of the government's efforts to break the cycle of poverty in Indonesia, in line with Presidential Instruction Number 8 of 2025 on the Optimization of Poverty Alleviation and Extreme Poverty Eradication.

The program, which is carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Social Affairs, is targeted at children from poor and extremely poor families.

Earlier, on September 11, President Prabowo Subianto underscored that about 100 Sekolah Rakyat schools are already operational nationwide, with the number expected to reach 165 by the end of September this year.
