“The goal of blocking off these fire locations is to prevent the flames from spreading to other areas,” Acting Head of the West Aceh BPBD Teuku Ronal Nehdiansyah said on Thursday.
The fire breaks were established in Keub Village, Arongan Lambalek Sub-district, and Deuah Village, Samatiga Sub-district, as well as Leuhan, Lapang and Suak Raya Villages in Johan Pahlawan Sub-district, he said.
Nehdiansyah added that, as of Thursday afternoon, the fire area had not expanded since the fire breaks were completed.
The burned land includes seven hectares in Keub Village, Arongan Lambalek Sub-district; three hectares in Napai Village, West Woyla Sub-district; two hectares in Leuhan and Lapang Villages, Johan Pahlawan Sub-district; 0.5 hectares in Suak Raya Village, Johan Pahlawan Sub-district; and 0.3 hectares in Ujong Tanoh Darat Village, Meureubo Sub-district.

He noted that limited water sources near the fire zones have hampered suppression efforts.
To strengthen operations, BPBD has deployed one fire brigade unit at the Meureubo fire station, supported by a D-Max vehicle, a pickup truck, a Robin engine, a Kohler engine and a drone.
Firefighting efforts involve West Aceh BPBD teams, firefighters from its headquarters and the Meureubo post, along with personnel from Johan Pahlawan police, Johan Pahlawan military command, West Woyla police, West Woyla military command, RAPI radio volunteers and local residents.
“The West Aceh BPBD is continuing to work to extinguish the fires, and we hope the current forest and land fires can be completely put out soon,” Nehdiansyah said.
