Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry stated that Indonesia’s fashion industry continues to show positive trends and plays a strategic role in driving national economic growth.

Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries Reni Yanita said here on Friday that in the second quarter of 2025, the fashion industry contributed 6.96 percent to the non-oil and gas manufacturing gross domestic product (GDP).

That figure shows an increase of 1.6 percent compared to the same period last year.

“From the employment side, the sector absorbed around 1.6 million workers in small industries in 2024 and nearly 89 thousand workers in large industries,” Yanita said during the Indonesia Fashion Ecosystem Summit (IDFES) 2025.

However, she also cautioned about a 10.34 percent rise in imports of finished garments.

She stressed the importance of building a strong fashion industry ecosystem from the upstream to downstream levels.

Therefore, she said, support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) specializing in batik, weaving, and other crafts will be intensified.

The government will also increase training for designers and tailors to improve product quality, including raw material development, she added.

To strengthen industry players’ capacity, the Ministry runs strategic programs covering innovation competitions, product certification such as halal and green industry certificates, and business incubators to foster new ventures.

Additionally, the Ministry will keep revitalizing SME centers, develop human resources through training and internships, and mentor new entrepreneurs in fashion. Machinery and equipment restructuring is also underway to boost efficiency and quality.

Moreover, Yanita said the Ministry has facilitated industry players' participation in exhibitions and promotional events domestically and internationally to expand market reach and strengthen Indonesia’s fashion industry on the global stage.
