Speaking at the Women on The Move 2025 forum in Bali on Saturday (Sept. 27), Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar emphasized the importance of empowering women as a way to ignite new engines of economic growth.
"Empowering women in the creative economy means activating a new and more inclusive engine of growth. Women do not only create for themselves - they generate a multiplier effect for their families, communities, and the national economy," she said, as quoted in a ministry press release received on Monday.
Irene stressed that women are not merely beneficiaries of these programs but are, in fact, agents of change in driving economic growth.
As such, the Ministry of Creative Economy has launched several initiatives aimed at increasing the role and contribution of women in the creative sector.
Among the programs is "Emak-Emak Melek Teknologi" (Digitally Literate Moms), or "Emak-Emak Matic," which aims to improve digital literacy among women, equip them with online marketing skills, and provide better access to financing facilities.
"This enables women to move up from home-based operations to becoming independent entrepreneurs," Irene noted
She also highlighted the unique strengths of female leadership and its impact on the development of the creative economy.
"Women lead with empathy, collaboration, and the courage to make long-term decisions. This approach makes creative economy policies more sensitive to benefit distribution, leading to more equitable and sustainable outcomes," she explained.
The Women on The Move 2025 event brought together women leaders from various sectors, including government, finance, and the creative industries.
Irene added that the forum serves as a platform for women leaders to share ideas, build networks, and take concrete actions to strengthen the role of women as drivers of change.
