Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Health Ministry identified as many as 600,698 TB cases by 27 September 2025, which is 55 percent of the target set at 1,090,000 cases.

The ministry's acting director general for disease prevention and control, Murti Utami, said here on Monday that supposedly, by September, 70 percent of the cases should have been identified. Of the 600 thousand cases, 14 percent were found in children, whereas 86 percent were found among adults.

Utami confirmed that treatment coverage is capped at 90 percent; however, they lost contact with 10 percent of the patients.

As for treatment for drug-resistant TB, the target is set at 95 percent, but the coverage is only around 75 percent, she added.

She noted that for the treatment success rate for drug-sensitive TB, it is capped at 80 percent of a targeted 90 percent, whereas in drug-resistant TB cases, it is capped at 58 percent of a targeted 80 percent.

"There's prevention treatment. For close contact, we usually provide a TB prevention drug, and currently, the coverage is small, just 136,934 people," she said.

She then compared the current coverage with last year's. In 2024, 78 percent of target cases were identified, whereas the target was set at 90 percent. Moreover, 92 percent of patients were treated, out of a targeted 95 percent set.

"Insha Allah, in 2025, we have a target. Hopefully, by the end of the year, identification of TB in 981 thousand people can be achieved," she said.

Her administration pursued some efforts to eliminate TB, such as advocating to integrate TB screening with the Free Health Checkup (CKG) program, since the program is implemented across multiple channels like the community, schools, and others.

Moreover, the ministry also carries out active case finding, particularly in jails, prisons, and penitentiaries.

She also pointed at a pre-pilot of the One Stop Service (OSS) to prevent loss of contact, so as to ensure treatment is delivered immediately after one is identified with TB.

The government also involves cadres in TB-handling-ready villages, an initiative which has involved some 1,834 villages across 21 provinces. Weekly monitoring by the government is also conducted to ensure that the efforts go accordingly, she noted.
