Nganjuk, East Java (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Budi Santoso conducted an unannounced inspection of staple commodity prices and availability at Wage Market in Nganjuk District, East Java, on Friday.

According to Kediri branch head of state-run logistics company Bulog, Harisun, the minister aimed to gain a firsthand view of basic goods and identify areas where government intervention may be needed to keep prices stable and affordable.

“The visit was part of efforts to ensure price stability, particularly for rice, so that basic goods remain affordable,” Harisun said while accompanying the minister.

During the visit, Santoso inspected supplies of rice, cooking oil, chicken, beef, and other essentials, while engaging directly with merchants.

Harisun noted that the minister found all staple commodities, including rice, to be available at reasonable prices.

After visiting Wage Market, Santoso continued to a local cooperative under the Red and White Village Cooperatives program, which aims to empower rural communities and improve living standards through broader access to essential goods and services.

At the cooperative, he reviewed the availability of rice and cooking oil and praised the collaboration between local authorities, Bulog, and other stakeholders in ensuring accessible and affordable basic commodities.

Harisun emphasized that Bulog remains committed to maintaining adequate stocks of subsidized rice under the Food Supply and Price Stability (SPHP) program in traditional markets, including through partnerships with merchants.

He added that the National Food Agency (Bapanas) has tasked Bulog with distributing SPHP rice from July to December this year to curb food prices following recent increases.

“The SPHP program is expected to stabilize rice prices, protect purchasing power, and secure the availability of essential goods, particularly rice,” Harisun said.

Nganjuk District Head Marhaen Djumadi and Deputy Head Trihandi Cahyo Saputro also accompanied the minister during the visit.
