The Head of the East Java Regional Police's Medical and Health Division, Senior Commissioner M. Khusnan, informed that his party is still undergoing post-mortem examination for the six bodies at Bhayangkara Hospital in Surabaya.
"We have been identifying six bodies since Sunday morning. Of the total 32 body bags, the six are being processed and the post-mortem examinations for the rest have been completed," Khusnan explained on Sunday.
According to him, the team received a total of 37 body bags, including five victims who had previously been confirmed dead. Of these, eight have been identified.
He conveyed that the identification process is being carried out 24 hours a day, with forensic doctors and the East Java Regional Police's DVI team working in shifts.
"Our team is working around the clock to ensure the identification process is completed quickly. This is also the wish of the victims' families," he remarked.
The team has also taken DNA samples from all the bodies and body parts to be sent to the National Police Medical and Health Center (Pusdokkes) in Jakarta via a flight this afternoon.
"All DNA samples have been taken and sent to Jakarta. If additional body parts with matching DNA results are found, they will be combined as they belong to one person," Khusnan explained.
