"Yes, the announcement and inauguration by the President will take place next week," Prasetyo told reporters on Sunday during an event in Jakarta.
Prasetyo, commonly known as Pras, declined to disclose the exact date of the inauguration or the names of those appointed to the committee. When asked whether nine individuals would be sworn in, he replied jokingly, "Oh, how did you know? Already got a leak?"
The formation of the Police Reform Committee is part of President Prabowo’s campaign promise to address public calls for internal reform within the Indonesian National Police (Polri), particularly amid mounting pressure from various civil society groups.
In a separate statement last week (September 26), Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the committee would be officially announced by mid-October 2025 at the latest.
Yusril added that several prominent legal experts are expected to be appointed as members of the committee. Among those reportedly being considered are Jimly Asshiddiqie and Mahfud MD.
Jimly served as the first Chief Justice of Indonesia’s Constitutional Court from 2003 to 2008, while Mahfud MD held the same position from 2008 to 2013.
Following his tenure at the court, Mahfud held various ministerial roles under President Joko Widodo’s administration, including Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (2019–2024), Acting Minister of Communication and Information Technology (May 19–July 17, 2023), and Acting Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform.
Yusril also confirmed last week that he himself will be part of the committee. “The President told me, ‘Let’s move quickly to form the commission or committee for police reform so we can start the process as soon as possible.’ [...] He said, ‘Prof., you’ll be on the committee, along with other constitutional law experts,’” Yusril told reporters.
