Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed the Indonesian government’s commitment to eradicating illegal mining to protect the nation’s natural resources.

“We must not be afraid to confront smuggling, illegal mining, and all related crimes,” President Prabowo stated during an inspection and handover of state-confiscated assets in Bangka Belitung on Monday.

His working visit to the Bangka Belitung Islands was aimed at overseeing the transfer of assets seized from private companies found to have violated the law within the operational area of state-owned tin miner PT Timah.

“The owners of these companies have been prosecuted, and the Attorney General’s Office has seized six tin smelters in the province,” he said.

President Prabowo commended the Attorney General’s Office for its law enforcement efforts, describing them as a major step forward in the fight against illegal mining.

“I urge law enforcement agencies to continue this mission to safeguard the nation’s wealth for the benefit of all Indonesians,” he added.

He also directed the Attorney General’s Office, Customs and Excise, and the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) to intensify efforts to crack down on smuggling and illegal tin mining operations.

“I extend my appreciation to the Attorney General and his team, as well as all involved officials. This is clear evidence that the government is serious and determined to eliminate smuggling, illegal mining, and all forms of legal violations,” the President said.

President Prabowo revealed that illegal mining activities by six companies in the Bangka Belitung Islands have caused state losses of up to Rp300 trillion.

He emphasized that such practices must no longer be tolerated, as they threaten the nation’s economic sovereignty.
