Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration among State University Hospitals (RSPTN) to improve education, research, and health care services, and to position them on the global stage.

The statement was made during the 2025 National Congress of the Association of State University Hospitals (ARSPTN) and the 6th Annual RSPTN Meeting, hosted by the University of Indonesia Hospital and the UI Special Dental and Oral Hospital on Saturday.

“The health sector is unique and data-rich, so we should aim to compete globally. Our teaching hospitals must be supported by the best talents,” Minister Brian Yuliarto said on Monday.

He emphasized the need to make RSPTN a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, functioning as an open laboratory for medicine, engineering, and other scientific fields.

“Indonesia has a comparative advantage because of its equatorial position. Many diseases are found here, and this should drive innovation and research that benefit other disciplines,” Yuliarto said.

He urged the use of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) in health research to drive breakthroughs in medical instruments and health technology, reducing reliance on imported products.

Aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita development agenda, the ministry aims for RSPTN to reach international standards within three to five years.

Yuliarto called on universities, medical professionals, researchers, industry, and local governments to work together to elevate RSPTN’s role.

“RSPTN must become a world-class institution. Collaboration with Harvard, NUS, and other leading universities is possible,” he said.

Meanwhile, ARSPTN Chairman Nasronudin highlighted the untapped potential of university hospitals.

“RSPTN plays a strategic role in integrating education, research, and service, including fields like robotics and stem cell development,” he said.

He added that RSPTN’s flexibility allows it to support government policies and respond effectively to community health needs.
