"Jakarta continues to expand mental health services, from providing psychologists at community health centers (puskesmas), online consultation, to strengthening posyandus' and health cadres' roles," he said in Jakarta on Monday.
At the "Expert Meeting: the Meeting of Mental-Health Friendly Posyandu Experts" event, he underlined that posyandus must be safe spaces for mothers and families, including providing emotional support for them.
He noted that happy mothers will raise a healthy, strong, and intelligent generation.
In Jakarta, mental health services have started to be integrated into posyandus starting from 2024. However, Karno did not mention the number of posyandus that have provided the services since it is still in the data collection process.
According to him, posyandu cadres now not only provide services related to nutrition and immunization, but also education and initial support for residents who need psychological assistance.
This innovation, he said, reflects not only Jakarta's efforts in reducing the stunting rate but also raising generations that are healthy physically, mentally, and socially.
"This is essential because mental health is the foundation of a productive and happy life," he added.
The deputy governor further said that the Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to building a health service system that is more adaptive, smart, and inclusive, one of which is by initiating the Smart Posyandu program, which involves technology adoption.
He explained that the use of technology in posyandu services can accelerate the services provided, increase data accuracy, and bolster the cadres' role in educating and assisting the community.
