Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government will introduce the Garuda School, one of President Prabowo Subianto’s quick win programs, on Wednesday (October 8) across 16 locations simultaneously.

According to official Instagram posts by @sekolahgaruda.ri and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology's account @kemdiktisaintek.ri, the launching event is themed “Getting to Know Garuda School: A New Hope for Excellent Education.”

The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. in three Indonesian time zones.

The program involves 12 existing transformed high schools, including SMAN 10 Fajar Harapan Banda Aceh, SMAS Unggul Del Toba, MAN IC Ogan Komering Ilir, SMANU MH Thamrin Jakarta, SMA Cahaya Rancamaya Bogor, SMA Pradita Dirgantara Boyolali, and SMA Taruna Nusantara Magelang.

Moreover, SMA Banua Banjarbaru, SMAN Siwalima Ambon, SMAN 10 Samarinda, MAN IC Gorontalo, and SMA Averos Sorong.

Additionally, four new Garuda School sites in East Belitung, South Timor Tengah, Konawe, and Bulungan will also join the introduction.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is preparing these new school campuses, expected to begin operating in the 2026/2027 academic year.

Designed as STEM-focused boarding schools at the senior high level, Garuda Schools aim to prepare students for entry into top global universities.

Deputy Minister Stella Christie emphasized that Garuda Schools, designed as a boarding school with modern facilities, are intended to produce a globally competitive generation and accelerate human capital development towards Golden Indonesia 2045.

The schools apply a dual funding model: 80 percent of students will receive full government scholarships, while 20 percent will pay tuition fees.

“This ensures that high-achieving students can still attend the school without burdening the state,” she explained.
