Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of Indonesia’s People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani emphasized that the collapse of a building at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) in Sidoarjo, East Java, serves as a stark reminder for all parties about the critical importance of adhering to construction standards.

According to Muzani, construction standards aimed at ensuring the safety of students, santris (Islamic boarding school students), and university students must be implemented not only in pesantrens but across all educational institutions, both religious and secular.

“This incident must serve as a lesson for everyone,” Muzani said in an interview following the MPR’s meeting with Indonesia's Supreme Audit Board (BPK) in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He described the tragedy at the Al Khoziny pesantren as deeply concerning and heartbreaking for all parties involved, especially since it resulted in a significant loss of life.

“Of course, we are deeply saddened and extend our condolences over this incident,” he added.

Muzani entrusted the police to thoroughly investigate the tragedy, expressing hope that the findings would provide an important lesson for all education providers. “I trust that the authorities’ decisions will be the best possible outcome,” he said.

Bhayangkara Hospital in Surabaya has received a total of 62 body bags containing victims of the collapsed prayer room (mushala) at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Buduran, Sidoarjo, as of Tuesday afternoon.

“God willing, the DNA results will be available today. We will begin the reconciliation process at 3:00 p.m. Hopefully, it will proceed swiftly, and we can share the results with colleagues after the maghrib prayers,” said East Java Police Medical and Health Division Head, Police Commissioner Khusnan Marzuki.

Of the 62 body bags received, seven contained body parts, while the rest were intact bodies still undergoing identification matching.
