Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA) - Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono said that the central government would provide an endowment fund for the Garuda School program to expand access to education for the public.

"It was mentioned earlier that an endowment fund has been prepared," Harbuwono said during the introduction of Garuda School at SMA Unggul Del Toba, Toba District, on Wednesday.

Dante explained that the endowment fund was prepared to support the sustainability of the school's operations, as well as to provide scholarships for students.

Later, he said, the endowment fund allocated for scholarships would be managed through the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP).

"An endowment fund has been prepared in the form of LPDP for those who wish to study at this Garuda School," he said.

With this policy, he emphasized that the program initiated by the central government would be accessible to all members of the public.

"So, economic factors are not an issue at all. Outstanding schools usually implement a boarding system, so students can stay there, receive pocket money, book allowances, and other support," he said.

Therefore, he expressed hope that the public would make good use of the policy provided through the central government’s program.

"What they receive is a form of appreciation for their intelligence, competence, and motivation, but with the condition that they must maintain their academic performance as best as possible," he said.

Previously, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology said that the Garuda School is expected to serve as a transformation model for other schools in its surrounding areas.

The government’s program to develop Garuda Schools, primarily at the high school level, also aims to help children in various regions unlock and optimize their potential.
