Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian called on inspectorates of regional governments to actively and thoroughly supervise programs or policies from the planning to execution stages to minimize errors and ensure optimal performance.

“Inspectorates must play an active supervisory role, especially during the planning stage. I do not want local officials to act only once shortcomings have occurred during program execution,” he remarked in Jakarta on Thursday.

Speaking after attending the 2025 National Coordination Meeting on Guidance and Supervision organized by his ministry’s Inspectorate General, Karnavian also urged regional inspectorate bodies to provide input during program planning.

“It is crucial for regional inspectors to take foresight-based supervisory actions by offering input and issuing early warnings. That way, we can assess or predict potential outcomes of programs, including those related to budget efficiency,” he explained.

Furthermore, the minister cautioned regional inspectorates against taking pride in their ability to detect errors after implementation, underscoring that their primary responsibility is to help prevent them.

“In principle, inspectorates are tasked with supervisory duties aimed at preventing misconduct,” Karnavian affirmed. “The fewer errors, the better.”

He emphasized that optimizing the roles and functions of regional inspectorates is essential to prevent administrative or procedural mistakes, thereby improving governance and development performance.

Karnavian also expressed hope that the national coordination meeting would help align the visions of regional inspectorates and the Home Affairs Ministry’s Inspectorate General.

Among the speakers addressing regional inspectors during the forum were Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chair Setyo Budiyanto, Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) Head Muhammad Yusuf Ateh, and Development Control and Special Investigation Agency (Bappisus) Chief Aris Marsudiyanto.
