This is initiated in line with the ministry's plan to make English Language a compulsory subject at schools in the 2027-2028 academic year.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti, in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday, stated that the step is taken based on the Primary and Secondary Education Minister's Regulation Number 13 of 2025.
"This policy is part of the implementation of the National Education Roadmap, which highlights that proficiency in foreign languages, especially English, is a key instrument to nurture productive and globally competitive graduates," he remarked.
The minister affirmed that his ministry has designed the training program, which aims to support elementary school teachers to acquire an A2 English proficiency level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
He further said that the program is created with a mindful, joyful, and meaningful learning principle that is integrated into learning management systems to support sustainable digital learning implementation, highlighting that technology and artificial intelligence are important in English language learning.
In accordance with the ministry's deep learning goal, coding and artificial intelligence elective subjects are deemed able to be integrated with the English language learning.
Mu'ti underscored that in the 2025–2045 National Education Roadmap, English language learning is directed with three main transformation pillars, namely, first, equitable educational service access and quality.
Meanwhile, the other two pillars are improving the competency of teachers and educational staff and transforming education with a deep learning approach, which is future-oriented, productive, and competitive.
