Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto has called on the public not to fear reporting drug abuse cases, emphasizing the availability of government drug rehabilitation programs.

He stressed that rehabilitation is not a form of punishment, but a means to help drug users recover and return to productive lives.

“The state is not here to punish, but to provide assistance. Rehabilitation is not a path to prison, it is an opportunity for self-recovery,” Seto said in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In line with Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, BNN reaffirmed that every drug user has the right to rehabilitation. This right represents the state’s commitment to protecting its citizens and enabling them to recover holistically, both medically and socially.

Seto noted that many people remain hesitant or unwilling to report drug use due to lingering perceptions that view addicts solely as criminals.

“We want to change that mindset: reporting and undergoing rehabilitation does not mean you will be sent to jail. It is a courageous step to save yourself, your family, and your future,” he said.

Under its renewed approach, BNN emphasizes humanitarian values and respect for human dignity.

The rehabilitation process combines medical and social approaches to ensure recovery is not only physical, but also mental and social, allowing former users to reintegrate and function fully within society.
