Ternate, North Maluku (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka praised the revitalization of the Jailolo People's Market in Guaemaadu Village, Jailolo Sub-district, West Halmahera, North Maluku, calling it a significant step toward boosting local economic growth.

VP Gibran visited the market on Thursday as part of his two-day working visit to North Maluku.

West Halmahera Deputy District Head Djufri Muhammad, speaking from Ternate, expressed appreciation for the central government’s support in redeveloping the market. He said the revitalized facility has had a positive impact on the local economy.

“The local government and residents are grateful for the construction of this impressive market—modern yet rooted in local character. Around 300 traders now benefit from the upgraded facilities,” he said.

VP Gibran’s visit reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the people’s economy.

The revitalization of traditional markets not only supports smooth food distribution but also reflects efforts to sustain local economies and enhance community welfare.

The refurbished market aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision that national development must reach the grassroots level—impacting people's daily lives—including through traditional markets, which serve as essential hubs of economic and socio-cultural activity.

The Jailolo People’s Market, spanning 7,147 square meters and accommodating up to 380 traders, was fully revitalized in 2024. It now features a cleaner, more organized, and more comfortable environment for both sellers and buyers.

During his visit, VP Gibran commended the market’s transformation, highlighting its integrated layout, well-maintained facilities, and improved accessibility for the public.

Earlier, Trade Minister Budi Santoso noted that supporting and upgrading people’s markets is part of the government’s broader strategy to accelerate regional development, particularly in the trade sector.

Additionally, the government is working to educate market traders by promoting digital tools, including the adoption of online shopping systems.
