Jakarta (ANTARA) -
KP2MI and the Foreign Ministry signed an MoU to enhance protection and services for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) by integrating PMI data between the two ministries.

The MoU was signed between the Minister of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection (P2MI) Mukhtarudin and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono at the Pancasila Building on Thursday (Oct 16), according to a statement from the P2MI Ministry (KP2MI) in Jakarta on Friday.

Mukhtarudin hopes that the collaboration will benefit Indonesian migrant workers, particularly in terms of services and protection.

The scope of the collaboration primarily includes the integration of the Indonesian migrant workers' data recorded on the KP2MI's SiskoP2MI website and the Foreign Affairs Ministry's Peduli WNI website.

Beyond data integration, the cooperation covers aligning policies and standards for migrant worker placement and protection, improving access to global labor markets, strengthening human resources, enhancing outreach-based protection, and resolving issues related to migrant workers' rights fulfillment.

Meanwhile, the P2MI Deputy Minister Christina Aryani assessed that the signing of the MoU between the KP2MI and the Foreign Affairs Ministry was a strategic step to strengthen inter-ministerial coordination.

Aryani added that despite the KP2MI's limited authority abroad, the Foreign Affairs Ministry plays a crucial role as an extension of the government in protecting Indonesian migrant workers while working abroad.

"We cannot access overseas territories without the support of the Foreign Affairs Ministry," she added.

As a follow-up, the two ministries are committed to immediately developing a joint action plan to ensure the effective implementation of the MoU and provide direct benefits to Indonesian migrant workers worldwide.
