Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has set a target of operating 100 kitchens, officially called nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs), in Central Java to support President Prabowo Subianto's Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

On Friday (October 17), the Central Java Regional Police advanced efforts to meet this target by inaugurating 32 SPPGs and commencing the development of 27 others at the construction site of the Gedawang SPPG in Semarang City, Central Java.

Polri Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo attended the ceremonial event, according to a press release cited in Jakarta on Saturday.

Head of the Public Relations Division of the Central Java Police, Grand Commissioner Artanto, emphasized that the development of the kitchens reflects the police’s commitment to supporting the government in improving citizens’ nutritional intake, especially among schoolchildren.

He explained that the Gedawang SPPG is being constructed on 1,535 square meters of land, with the building projected to cover 661 square meters. The kitchen is expected to be operational by October 20 and serve the nutritional needs of 4,100 residents.

Artanto added that the opening of 32 new SPPGs has increased the number of active police-run MBG kitchens in Central Java to 73.

“So far, our kitchens have served 40,453 program beneficiaries and created jobs for 690 workers,” he noted.

He assured the public that all MBG kitchens are operating in accordance with food safety and quality standards set by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).

“Every SPPG is equipped with proper sanitation and water filtration systems, as well as tools for sterilizing food trays,” he said.

Earlier, during the ceremony, Polri Chief Prabowo stated that the police aim to establish more than 1,000 SPPGs nationwide to support the national priority program. So far, Polri has opened 159 SPPGs and begun construction of 398 others, with 115 more being prepared for operation.

Nationally, the MBG program has reached over 34 million people with support from nearly 12,000 kitchens as of mid-October.
