"Our objective is to find ways to rally people from Gen Z and other generations to contribute and participate in efforts toward national economic development through transmigration programs," he remarked at the Transmigration Ministry Headquarters in Jakarta on Saturday.
To that end, the ministry introduced a 24-hour Open House initiative, providing a platform for all citizens, including young people, to gain information and insights on the transmigration movement both offline and online.
He emphasized that the main goal of the initiative is to raise public awareness about the importance of transmigration programs and their tangible contributions to national development and people’s welfare.
Intensifying information dissemination is essential to gather public support and legitimacy for the government’s efforts to develop and advance transmigration zones across the country, he added.
In this regard, Suryanagara observed that Gen Z residents born after 1999 tend to have little to no knowledge about the history and significance of the transmigration movement, despite it being one of former president Soeharto’s flagship initiatives.
To help address this gap, the ministry invited key figures to share their experiences, including Eko Putro Sandjojo, who served as Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration during 2016–2019.
He highlighted that several priority transmigration programs have been rolled out under President Prabowo Subianto, all aimed at boosting the economic self-reliance of people living in regions outside Greater Jakarta and promoting inclusive development.
The Open House program began on Saturday at 8 a.m. local time and will run for 24 hours at the Transmigration Ministry Headquarters in South Jakarta. During the activity, citizens can ask questions, provide input or ideas, and voice criticism either in person or through social media.
