Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno said that the State Policy Guidelines (PPHN) would ensure national development continues consistently and aligns with the values of Pancasila, the state ideology.

He explained that the PPHN, currently being formulated by the MPR, responds to public concerns about the national development agenda often being disrupted by changes in government administrations.

“Each administration has its own vision and mission. Without a shared, constitutionally binding guideline to ensure continuity, development cannot be guaranteed,” Soeparno said in a statement received on Sunday.

Speaking at the National Working Meeting of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Universities in Malang, East Java, on Saturday, he noted that other countries such as Singapore, Qatar, and China have already implemented long-term, cross-generational development plans.

“Indonesia needs a similar framework to ensure that development programs are not constantly altered or halted midway,” he added.

Soeparno emphasized that the PPHN would not reduce the government’s authority to design its development blueprints but would instead serve as a framework of principles and long-term sustainable direction.

He said the PPHN is expected to integrate aspects of human and character development, socio-political institutions and governance, as well as economic growth and welfare into a coherent long-term policy direction.

The MPR, he added, remains open to input from the public, academics, and community organizations.

In this context, Soeparno said he had met with Muhammadiyah leader Haedar Nashir to gather insights and enrich perspectives in shaping the nation’s long-term development direction.
