Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and the Ministry of Manpower have agreed to collaborate in aligning higher education programs with the needs of the workforce.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto and Manpower Minister Yassierli here on Tuesday.

Through this collaboration, the two ministries aim to integrate education and manpower planning using a data-driven approach.

They also plan to strengthen the professional certification system and develop curricula that are adaptive to future job demands, including those related to green jobs.

In a statement on Wednesday, Yuliarto expressed full support for enhancing the higher education ecosystem through integrative and collaborative policies across sectors to prepare a national workforce mapping plan.

He emphasized that education planning must align with development policies and future labor market needs so that university graduates can contribute to national economic growth.

Yuliarto affirmed that his ministry will provide a higher education database integrated with national industry needs to support evidence-based policy design and reduce the rate of graduate skill mismatches.

Meanwhile, Minister Yassierli noted that the partnership is expected to narrow the gap between graduate competencies and labor market demands by aligning curricula and learning processes with industry expectations.

During the meeting, both ministers also discussed strengthening international internship programs for Indonesian students as part of efforts to enhance global competitiveness.

They also underscored the importance of reforming the national scholarship policy, including optimizing the use of the Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), to direct scholarships toward the needs of economic development and national industry growth.

The ministries agreed to focus on integrating graduate data with national and global job market requirements, developing an industry-based workforce forecasting system, and reinforcing applied research and innovation in curriculum design that meets industry standards.
