During a joint press conference at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, President Prabowo stated that the invitation from South Africa, which holds 2025 G20 presidency, was an honor for Indonesia to attend and to provide support for South-South cooperation.
"I plan to attend, and I think this will symbolize the strength of South-South cooperation. We are confident that South Africa's leadership will move forward toward a more inclusive and equitable global economic order," he stated before South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
On the occasion, President Ramaphosa also looked forward to President Prabowo's attendance at the G20 Summit, with the theme "Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability."
He conveyed readiness to welcome Prabowo, both at the G20 Summit and during a state visit.
"We would be honored to host President Subianto in South Africa on a state visit at a mutually agreed date. He has already indicated that he is willing and able to come to South Africa on a state visit," Ramaphosa said.
He conveyed that the G20 Summit will concentrate on the actions member states must take to build an inclusive region, narrow inequality, and pursue sustainable development, especially in the Global South and on the African continent.
The G20 Summit this year will include discussions on mobilizing funding for a just energy transition, digital development, and strengthening the G20's partnership with the African region.
The two leaders also discussed cooperation in defense, agriculture, energy, and people-to-people exchanges, particularly in science and education.
Meanwhile, President Ramaphosa said the two nations agreed to increase trade volume as a driver of inclusive economic growth.
“We emphasize the importance of building more resilient and diversified economies for the benefit of our peoples, especially as we face similar geopolitical challenges,” he stated.
