"In the defense sector, we have agreed to accelerate the implementation of the defense cooperation agreement we signed in 2023. We will move forward on that," he remarked in a joint statement with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The two countries also discussed opportunities for cooperation in the agriculture, energy, and people-to-people relations sectors, including science and education, along with the possibility of implementing reciprocal visa-free travel, he continued.
According to Prabowo, he has asked his South African counterpart to send a technical team to discuss concrete programs in several priority areas for immediate implementation.
"If possible, we have asked for a technical delegation to discuss concrete programs in key areas where we can move forward quickly," Prabowo conveyed.
During the meeting, the two leaders also shared a common vision for progress and development, and the well-being of their people and nations.
President Prabowo Subianto received a state visit from President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon.
Ramaphosa’s visit is seen as an important step in strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.
Indonesia and South Africa have maintained strong diplomatic relations for more than three decades.
Ramaphosa and his delegation arrived earlier in the day at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta, where they were greeted with a guard of honor and a 21-gun salute.
Trade Minister Budi Santoso, Head of State Protocol Andy Rachmianto, and other officials were present to receive the South African delegation.
President Prabowo is also scheduled to host a state dinner for President Ramaphosa and his delegation.
