"Today, we received the honor of a state visit from the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil. This is President Lula's second state visit to Indonesia, following his first visit in 2008," Prabowo said in a joint statement with Lula at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday.
"Furthermore, this is also my third meeting with him, and two months ago, I paid a state visit to Brasilia on July 9, 2025. We had an intensive and productive meeting," he continued.
According to Prabowo, the two agreed to strengthen relations in various sectors, including trade, technology, agriculture, and defense.
Known for its developed defense industry, Prabowo said Indonesia had used several Brazilian-made defense equipment and will continue to expand cooperation in this sector.
The two countries also have a Defense Cooperation Agreement, which is currently in the ratification process, he added.
Furthermore, Prabowo also mentioned the significant cooperation in the energy sector, through an agreement between PLN and J&F S.A. of Brazil.
In addition, the two countries are strengthening ties in science and research, along with the realization of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and the South American Mercosur group of countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay).
"And we have received support from Brazil, because Brazil is now the President of Mercosur, and we hope for continued support," Prabowo pointed out.
Prabowo assessed that Indonesia and Brazil share a similar position as emerging economic powers in the global south and share similar views on various multilateral issues and international cooperation.
"We acknowledged complementary and mutually supportive synergies in many areas. At the global level, we share a similar stance on multilateral relations, in all important areas, politics, economics, and trade," he concluded.
President Lula's state visit to Jakarta is part of his overseas tour of Southeast Asia, and also a reciprocal visit, as President Prabowo had visited the Brazilian Presidential Palace on July 9, 2025.
At the Merdeka Palace, President Prabowo and President Lula attended a series of meetings, including a tête-à-tête meeting in the Presidential Office, a bilateral meeting, and the delivery of a joint statement.
