Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for Migrant Worker Protection Christina Aryani said that the placement of skilled Indonesian migrant workers in Turkey will focus on labor-intensive sectors like tourism, hospitality, construction, and manufacturing.

"The current minimum wage in Turkey is around US$650 (approximately Rp10.8 million). I believe that with enhanced skills, competence, and language proficiency, Indonesian migrant workers can earn above this standard," Aryani said in a press statement here on Sunday.

The deputy minister will conduct a working visit to Turkey from October 27-29, 2025.

Citing Turkey’s Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Aryani said that in 2024, 385,200 foreign workers obtained new work permits in Turkey, with 8,930 from Indonesia, making the country the seventh-largest contributor of foreign labor in Turkey.

"This number represents a significant increase from 2023, when Indonesia ranked tenth with 5,607 workers, a rise of approximately 59.26 percent," she added.

She highlighted that the increasing demand signals a growing labor market, especially in labor-intensive and non-formal sectors, including tourism, hospitality, construction, manufacturing, industry, and trade.

However, she emphasized that Indonesian migrant workers will be placed through professional, skills-based approaches to ensure fair compensation and proper working conditions.

She noted that the domestic sector is the most prone to labor rights violations, so placements will prioritize formal and skilled sectors.

During her visit, she will meet Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security to discuss potential government-to-government (G2G) schemes and harmonizing Indonesian vocational education with Turkey’s labor market needs.

"Since 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Labour has existed between Indonesia and Turkey," she mentioned.

She described the upcoming visit as a key momentum to follow up on the MoU, ensuring that cooperation in the field of labor is fully implemented.
