After a meeting on the program's regulation finalization on Tuesday, BGN head Dadan Hindayana said 13,347 kitchens — officially called Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs) — are currently operating across the country.
He said the forthcoming Presidential Regulation on MBG Program Governance would define institutional coordination and ensure accountability among agencies involved in the program's implementation.
"For technical matters such as SPPG management, hygiene, and food safety, they are already outlined in the technical guidelines and standard operating procedures," he explained.
Hindayana said the government remains optimistic about reaching 82.9 million beneficiaries by the end of this year.
On the same occasion, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan said the government had finalized a presidential decree establishing the MBG Implementation Coordination Team, which he would lead.
"Today, the Presidential Regulation on MBG Program Governance has been agreed upon, outlining the need for flawless implementation, supervision, and governance," Hasan said.
Meanwhile, the regulation on BGN's organizational structure and work procedures is expected to be completed next week.
"We will continue to collaborate because this is a priority program with a massive and widespread impact. With 82.9 million beneficiaries targeted, it will bring a huge impact," Hasan added.
Launched on January 6, the free meals program is one of President Prabowo Subianto's priority initiatives aimed at improving nutrition among children under five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and students up to high school level.
