Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government and Commission VIII of the House of Representatives have agreed to set the Hajj Travel Cost (Bipih) for the 2026 pilgrimage season at Rp54,193,807 per pilgrim.

The cost is equivalent to approximately US$3,260 based on current exchange rate.

“This reduction reflects the commitment of the government and parliament to easing the financial burden on pilgrims without compromising the quality of Hajj services,” said Commission VIII Chair Marwan Dasopang during the announcement on Wednesday.

Dasopang explained that in a joint working meeting with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the average Hajj Organizing Cost (BPIH) was determined to be Rp87,409,356 (around US$5,260), down by approximately Rp2 million compared to the previous year.

Of this total, Rp33,215,559—or 38 percent—is covered by the Benefit Value from the Hajj Fund Management Agency (BPKH). The remaining 62 percent is paid directly by pilgrims.

He noted that the cost reduction resulted from efficiency measures, including renegotiation of service fees in Saudi Arabia and optimization of investment returns from Hajj fund management.

Earlier, the government had proposed a Bipih of Rp54.92 million, with a subsidy of Rp33.48 million per pilgrim, also representing 38 percent of the total BPIH.

This financing structure is designed to balance pilgrims’ financial capacity with the long-term sustainability of the Hajj fund, ensuring affordability while maintaining service standards.
