Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah Affairs expects around 50,000 priority pilgrims to join the murur scheme during the 2026 Hajj season to help reduce congestion and health risks caused by overcrowding and extreme heat.

Deputy Minister Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that the murur strategy would continue, with priority given to elderly pilgrims, people with disabilities, and their companions.

"The murur strategy will remain in place, giving priority to elderly pilgrims, persons with disabilities, and their attendants," he remarked.

Under the murur mechanism, pilgrims pass through Muzdalifah without leaving their vehicles after performing wukuf in Arafah and proceed directly to Mina.

To avoid confusion, the ministry will conduct awareness programs for prospective pilgrims before their departure from Indonesia.

"On the technical side, we will coordinate with the Saudi government and collaborate with two general service providers that have been selected," Simanjuntak added.

In addition to murur, the ministry is also preparing a tanazul strategy to prevent overcrowding in Mina's tent areas.

The tanazul scheme allows pilgrims staying near the Jamarat area, such as in Shishah and Nawariyah, to return to their hotels after completing the stoning of the devil ritual, instead of staying overnight in Mina tents.

According to Simanjuntak, the ministry, together with Saudi authorities, will organize pilgrims' accommodation based on their travel routes and proximity to Mina.

"Ensuring the safety and comfort of pilgrims remains our top priority so that the tanazul strategy can be implemented smoothly," he emphasized.

He added that designated tanazul groups would be prepared in Indonesia and receive detailed briefings before departure.

The policy aims to ensure smoother Hajj operations and enhance services for all pilgrims, particularly those in vulnerable groups.
