Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, highlighted that halal certification is a strategic instrument to strengthen the regional economy and help Indonesia become a global halal hub.

"Halal certification is not merely about protection for consumers but also opportunities for business players in regions to advance. Halal products will be better received in the global market and strengthen the regional economic competitiveness," he said in a statement on Thursday.

To this end, he emphasized that regional governments have a key role in supporting halal certification acceleration, especially through the facilitation of halal certification for micro and small enterprises, as well as the integration of regional policies with the national halal ecosystem.

According to him, the mandatory halal certification policy has been regulated in Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance and Government Regulation Number 42 of 2024 on Halal Product Assurance Implementation.

The regulations are expected to support Indonesia in achieving its target of becoming a global halal hub, which is part of the nation's big vision towards the 2045 Golden Indonesia.

Hasan further said that under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, the halal mandate is implemented fully as a concrete measure to build the foundation of the national halal economy.

"It is time for us to show the world that Indonesia is ready to lead the global halal sector," he emphasized.

In addition, he also highlighted the importance of the dissemination of information, collaboration, and the improvement of regulations, as well as the digitalization of halal services.

He assessed that digitalization is a strategic step to create service transparency and efficiency, as well as ensuring there are no illegal levies in the certification process.

The BPJPH head affirmed that his agency's policy direction for 2025-2029 is guided by the 2025-2029 Medium-Term National Development Plan, which encompasses strengthening the halal ecosystem and transforming the halal product assurance implementation.
