Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - Indonesia has announced that it will implement new climbing fees for Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara province, effective November 3, 2025.

“For visitors who have reserved their tickets before that date, the old rates will still apply,” Mount Rinjani National Park Office Head Yarman stated in a written statement on Saturday.

He affirmed that the fee adjustments are intended to support improvements in services, conservation efforts, and sustainable management at Mount Rinjani National Park.

Starting November 3, first-class access to the main hiking routes—Sembalun, Senaru, and Torean—will cost Rp250,000 (US$15) for foreign nationals; Rp50,000 (US$3) on weekdays and Rp75,000 (US$4.5) on weekends for Indonesian citizens; and Rp25,000 (US$1.5) for Indonesian students.

Meanwhile, second-class access to alternative hiking routes—Timbanuh, Aik Berik, and Tetebatu—will cost Rp200,000 (US$12) for foreign nationals; Rp20,000 (US$1.2) on weekdays and Rp30,000 (US$1.8) on weekends for Indonesian citizens; and Rp10,000 (US$0.6) for Indonesian students.

Third-class tickets for 21 non-hiking attractions at Mount Rinjani will cost Rp150,000 (US$9) for foreign nationals; Rp10,000 on weekdays and Rp15,000 (US$0.9) on weekends for Indonesian citizens; and Rp5,000 (US$0.3) for Indonesian students.

The new climbing fees are part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance hiking safety and improve the overall management of Mount Rinjani, following a series of high-profile accidents involving foreign climbers earlier this year, including Brazilian mountaineer Juliana Marins.

In August, the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government and the Mount Rinjani National Park Office introduced a new standard operating procedure (SOP) for climbing the mountain.

The updated guidelines require climbers to have prior experience hiking less challenging mountains before attempting Mount Rinjani.

Additionally, training programs will be provided for the 371 porters and guides who operate on the mountain, which rises 3,726 meters above sea level and spans the districts of East Lombok, North Lombok, and Central Lombok.
