Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo on Thursday lauded Bali Governor I Wayan Koster and West Nusa Tenggara Governor Zulkieflimansyah for promoting the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in their respective regions.

"Congratulations to the Governors of West Nusa Tenggara and Bali who have pioneered the use of electric (vehicles)," he remarked at the Indonesia Electric Motor Show (IEMS) 2022 exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) here on Thursday.

He lauded how West Nusa Tenggara, under the leadership of Governor Zulkieflimansyah, is producing electric vehicles. That good step, he said, must receive attention and incentives from the central government so that West Nusa Tenggara can mass produce more electric vehicles.

By pioneering the use of electric vehicles in the region, West Nusa Tenggara can set an example for other Indonesian regions, he said. It is possible that West Nusa Tenggara will become a development center for national electric vehicles, he added.

He also lauded the clean energy-supportive policies of Bali Governor I Wayan Koster to promote the use of electric vehicles in the region.

"In Bali, especially in the Nusa Dua area, a regional regulation has been made regarding (some areas) that cannot be crossed by conventional vehicles. Rent motorcycles and cars must be electric-based; no more conventional (vehicles)," he noted.

The MPR Speaker expressed the hope that Indonesia will be able to mass produce electric vehicles in the future. He then called for prompt and precise clean energy-supportive government action to push the use of electric vehicles.

Governor Koster affirmed that his administration will promote electric vehicles by designating EV-only zones in Bali's tourist attractions by 2023.

"Battery-based electric vehicles, either electric motorcycles or cars, will be prioritized at tourist destinations from 2023," Koster said.

The governor revealed that the tourist attractions and regions that will be designated as EV-only zones are Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur, Denpasar, Ubud, Gianyar, and Nusa Penida.
