Speaking at the second session of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) in Gyeongju, South Korea, Prabowo said Indonesia still lags behind other APEC economies in digital skills and education.
“We support APEC’s cooperation to enhance digital skills. In the field of education, we feel Indonesia is behind the rest of the APEC economies,” Prabowo said in a video released by the Presidential Secretariat on Sunday.
He said his government is committed to reforming the national education system and increasing participation in APEC’s capacity-building programs in technology and innovation.
The president underscored that global cooperation is essential for strengthening Indonesia’s readiness to face the digital era and shifting demographics.

“We would like to take part in all APEC efforts to build capacity in technology. We also aim to empower small businesses and strengthen the health system to prepare for demographic changes,” he said.
Prabowo stressed that advancing technological capability is vital to ensuring Indonesia’s independence and improving citizens’ welfare.
“We must secure control over our technology. I believe that through cooperation within APEC, we can achieve this goal,” he said.
During the 2025 APEC Summit in Gyeongju, held from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1, Prabowo was accompanied by several senior officials, including Foreign Minister Sugiono and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
Prabowo’s remarks reflected his administration’s broader strategy to accelerate Indonesia’s digital transformation while maintaining sovereignty over its technological resources through regional cooperation and education reform.
