Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia, represented by former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar, and business leader Arsjad Rasjid, promoted dialogue, tolerance, and social justice at the Daring Peace – International Meeting for Peace 2025 in Rome on October 27.

The three speakers offered complementary perspectives on politics, spirituality, and economics, reflecting Indonesia’s pluralistic society and commitment to human-centered dialogue.

Jusuf Kalla, who served as Indonesia’s 10th and 12th vice president and is known for mediating conflicts in Poso and Aceh, said peace goes beyond the absence of war.

“Peace is the courage to lay down weapons, both physical and ideological, and choose justice and humanity,” he said.

He also highlighted the role of mosques as community centers for moral and social development.

“Mosques should not only be places of worship but spaces that foster civility and human solidarity,” Kalla said.

Nasaruddin Umar cautioned against politicizing religion, noting that the misuse of faith, not faith itself, threatens peace.

The Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque emphasized Islam as a blessing for humanity and urged the world to view Indonesia as a “laboratory of harmony,” where religious communities coexist peacefully.

Arsjad Rasjid, chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council for Entrepreneurship, addressed the economic roots of conflict, warning that inequality can fuel instability.

“An economy without humanity is a form of hidden conflict,” he said, advocating for community empowerment and socially responsible business practices.

The 2025 International Meeting for Peace in Rome gathered thousands of global leaders to discuss solutions to rising conflicts and extremism. Indonesia’s delegation underscored the interplay of political dialogue, spiritual values, and economic justice as essential pillars for sustainable peace worldwide.
