“BMKG plays an essential role in maintaining public safety, security, and welfare, especially in the transportation sector,” the minister said.
He made the statement after nominating Teuku Faisal Fathani as Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at the Office of the Ministry of Transportation in Jakarta on Monday.
Purwagandhi underscored the importance of BMKG’s contribution in providing weather, climate, and air quality data to support risk mitigation and national policy planning across various sectors, including transportation.
The minister appointed Teuku Faisal Fathani as Head of BMKG, replacing Dwikorita Karnawati.
Purwagandhi said the appointment was part of efforts to strengthen the organization and renew its leadership to meet the need for adaptive and professional human resources.
This step is also expected to enhance synergy between the transportation sector and institutions managing meteorological, climatological, and geophysical information systems.
“This collaboration is key to realizing safe, secure, and sustainable national connectivity,” Purwagandhi said.
He also noted that the inauguration serves as a momentum to accelerate BMKG’s transformation toward greater emphasis on data, technology, and inter-agency collaboration.
“Hopefully, this momentum will make BMKG even more solid, professional, and full of integrity in delivering excellent public services,” he said.
Purwagandhi further highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in facing future challenges, particularly ahead of the 2025 Christmas and New Year holidays and Eid 2026.
He expressed hope that collaboration and synergy between BMKG and the Ministry of Transportation in anticipating meteorological, climatological, and geophysical conditions can be further strengthened.
“This is to ensure the safety, security, and comfort of travelers,” he said.
The minister also expressed his appreciation to the former BMKG Head, Dwikorita Karnawati, for her dedication and service during her tenure.
“Thank you for your extraordinary achievements and contributions. Your leadership has laid a crucial foundation for BMKG’s continued success,” he said.
