Speaking at a ministerial meeting on Palestine in Istanbul, Turkiye, on Monday (Nov. 3), Sugiono stressed that international approval is essential for any steps toward peace in Gaza.
“We support concrete steps for peace, but they must be carried out under an official mandate from the United Nations or other recognized mechanisms,” he said, according to a Foreign Ministry statement issued Tuesday.
He emphasized that a clear mandate is vital to guarantee legitimacy and effective implementation of peace initiatives.
Sugiono reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to the outcomes of the Gaza Peace Summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in October, which called for coordinated action to end the conflict and support humanitarian recovery.
He said Indonesia stands ready to contribute to peace efforts in Gaza, including deploying peacekeeping troops, provided the mission operates under a UN mandate.

The Istanbul meeting, chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, was attended by the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Jordan, along with ministers from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Participants discussed the next steps for implementing the Gaza peace plan, including securing a ceasefire and rebuilding the war-torn enclave following Israel’s attacks.
