Nusantara (ANTARA) - The construction of Indonesia's new capital Nusantara (IKN), spanning parts of North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara Districts in East Kalimantan, remains consistent with the national development agenda, the IKN Authority (OIKN) has affirmed.

In North Penajam Paser on Wednesday, OIKN Head Basuki Hadimuljono explained that under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership, the government is striving to maintain economic stability, improve public welfare, enhance human resource quality, strengthen food security, and boost public health.

"Achievements related to the IKN construction align with the national development direction," he emphasized.

Hadimuljono pointed to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 12 of 2025 on the 2025–2029 Medium-Term National Development Plan, which mandates the continuation and acceleration of Nusantara’s construction as part of efforts to achieve equitable development.

He also highlighted that Perpres No. 79 of 2025, updating the 2025 Government Work Plan, outlines the fast-tracking of IKN construction as part of the national development priority.

"This regulation sets a target for us to declare IKN as Indonesia’s capital city for political affairs by 2028, supported by the transfer of civil servants and the provision of adequate infrastructure," Hadimuljono elaborated.

Ensuring the government’s commitment to the project, he noted that President Prabowo has approved a budget of Rp48.8 trillion (approx. US$3 billion) to support construction through 2029, with additional funding coming from domestic and foreign investments.

Hadimuljono said the OIKN has secured investment commitments totaling Rp225.02 trillion (around US$13.5 billion)—Rp66.3 trillion from private funds and Rp158.72 trillion through public-private partnership schemes—to build homes, roads, and an underground multi-utility tunnel in Nusantara.

The former public works and public housing minister viewed the investment inflow as evidence of the business community’s confidence in Indonesia’s economic stability and prospects.

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of synergy among the government, the private sector, and the public to develop Nusantara into a modern, sustainable capital city that reflects Indonesia’s optimism for a brighter future.
