Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) are collaborating to assess the impact of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program on national economic growth.

Deputy Head of BGN for Public Communication and Investigation, Nanik S. Deyang, said in a statement on Friday that the joint survey is crucial to determine the extent of the program’s impact on communities.

“The MBG program will turn one year old on January 6. Therefore, we hope BPS can present valuable data regarding the program’s impact on economic growth,” she said.

The agency also invited BPS to develop an integrated statistical system expected to track the development and growth of students who benefit from the MBG program.

“For instance, it could record student participation and attendance rates, as well as the weight and height of MBG beneficiaries,” she explained.

Deyang added that her agency will provide access to data from Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) or MBG kitchens, as well as data on beneficiary schools and their locations.

BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti welcomed the collaboration, noting that it aligns with BPS’s role in providing data for the government and the public.

She emphasized that such data is essential to measure the success of the MBG program and expressed hope that BGN would share relevant data, including the locations of MBG kitchens.

The MBG program is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority initiatives aimed at improving the nutritional status of children under five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and students up to the high school level.

Targeting 82.9 million beneficiaries nationwide, the MBG initiative is among the largest social programs ever implemented in Indonesia.

According to BGN data, the number of MBG beneficiaries had reached 39.2 million as of October 28, 2025.
