This was conveyed during the High-Level Breakfast Roundtable at Sustainable Business COP30 (SBCOP) themed Indonesia’s High-Integrity Carbon Market: Toward a Green, Resilient, and Inclusive Future in São Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday.
"Essentially, this transforms the act of protecting forests into a viable and profitable economic activity," Antoni said in a statement on Sunday.
He noted that through social forestry and critical land rehabilitation, local communities can play a role in preserving and managing forests, and be able to earn income from the sustainable forest management they carry out.
To implement this policy, he stated that his ministry is currently preparing four derivative regulations to strengthen carbon market governance, which will provide a strong legal foundation for a transparent, credible, and effective carbon market system in Indonesia.
"Our goal is to mobilize US$7.7 billion per year through carbon transactions and ensure each ton of emissions can be tracked, verified, and accounted for," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Presidential Special Envoy for Climate and Energy, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, reaffirmed Indonesia's readiness to develop a high-integrity carbon market and open up investment for climate action.
He noted that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has signed a new Presidential Regulation on the Carbon Economic Value, which establishes a robust and high-integrity carbon trading ecosystem in line with international standards.
This ensures credible and transparent measurement methods for climate contributions, as well as providing tangible benefits for local communities through strong environmental and social safeguards to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement.
Djojohadikusumo also asserted Indonesia's vision to become a leading global carbon market hub that has high integrity and can deliver real and measurable climate impact.
"As a global carbon market hub, it is expected to create jobs, strengthen livelihoods, and build more resilient, environmentally conscious communities," he said.
