Jakarta (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Syaifullah Yusuf said his side will work with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to provide comprehensive assistance and recovery support for school explosion victims in Kelapa Gading that occurred on Friday (November 7).

“We (the Social Affairs Ministry and the Jakarta Provincial Government) will share duties,” Yusuf stated after visiting the victims being treated at the Jakarta Islamic Hospital (RSIJ) Cempaka Putih on Sunday.

He explained that the Ministry will provide follow-up assistance after the victims complete their initial medical treatment, including rehabilitation, recovery programs, and, if necessary, empowerment initiatives to help them rebuild their lives.

Yusuf also noted that the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has been present daily at the hospital to ensure affected students receive proper medical and psychological support.

“The process will continue through the next stages,” he remarked.

The minister expressed appreciation for the professionalism of medical staff at RSIJ Cempaka Putih, adding, “The doctors have been working together, and we truly appreciate them.”

Earlier, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that the Jakarta Provincial Government would cover all medical expenses for the victims of the SMAN 72 Jakarta school explosion in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

“All hospital costs will be borne by the provincial government, regardless of where the victims are treated,” he stated.

He emphasized that this step demonstrates the government’s responsibility to ensure all victims receive full medical care.

“Everything will be under our care,” he added, noting that the police are currently investigating the cause of the explosion.

Previously, Jakarta Police reported that more than 50 people were injured in the incident.

“Our data recorded 54 victims with minor to moderate injuries, some of whom have already been allowed to return home,” Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri said.
