Tangerang (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Romo Muhammad Syafi’i emphasized that madrasah (Islamic schools) have become centers of comprehensive education, integrating not only religious studies but also competencies in science and technology.

“Islamic teaching is not limited to theology and religious knowledge; it encompasses all aspects of life, including science and technology,” Romo Muhammad Syafi’i stated in a press release in Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday.

The Deputy Minister’s remarks came on the occasion of the opening of the 2025 National Madrasah Olympiad (OMI) held from November 10-14 in Tangerang City.

The OMI event attracted hundreds of top students from Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (elementary), Madrasah Tsanawiyah (middle school), and Madrasah Aliyah (high school) levels across Indonesia.

Banten Governor Andra Soni expressed appreciation for the trust given to Banten Province, particularly Tangerang City, as the host of this year’s OMI.

“We ensure that both the provincial and local governments will do everything possible to ensure the success and smooth operation of the OMI in Tangerang,” Governor Soni said.

Tangerang Mayor Sachrudin expressed confidence in the event’s success, citing the city's readiness in infrastructure and full community support. He also hoped that participants from Banten would achieve outstanding results.

“We hope that the entire event will run smoothly, and as the host, we can deliver the best outcomes for Banten Province,” Mayor Sachrudin said.

The 2025 National OMI is being held at the Asrama Haji Grand El-Hajj in Cipondoh, Tangerang City.

Beyond being an academic and religious competition, the event serves as a platform for strengthening friendships and fostering a sense of nationalism among madrasah students across Indonesia.
