Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara and the government will jointly manage debt for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train, Whoosh, Chief Operating Officer Dony Oskaria said Tuesday.

Oskaria said the move follows President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to ensure the sustainability of the $7.3 billion transport project, which he said has delivered major social and economic benefits.

“The president has also raised the restructuring issue. This will involve both the government and Danantara,” Oskaria told reporters in Jakarta.

He said Danantara will oversee Whoosh’s operations to ensure efficient service along the Jakarta–Bandung corridor, while the government will focus on managing and strengthening related infrastructure.

Oskaria highlighted the project’s economic impact, noting its role in improving mobility and reducing travel time between the two cities.

“Whoosh provides many benefits, especially for our economy and public transportation,” he said.

He expressed optimism that Whoosh would continue attracting more passengers as it improves service quality and efficiency.

“We are responsible for ensuring Whoosh operates better and serves more people,” he added.

Earlier, President Prabowo said he would take full responsibility for the controversy surrounding Whoosh’s debt and operations.

“Do not worry about the Whoosh fuss. I have reviewed the issue, and there are no problems. I will take responsibility for everything,” he told reporters on Nov. 4, dismissing concerns over the project’s finances.

He said the high-speed train, Southeast Asia’s first, is operating normally despite public scrutiny over its funding.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, confirmed it will continue investigating alleged irregularities in the Whoosh project, including claims of inflated budgets raised by former Coordinating Minister Mahfud MD in a YouTube video.

Mahfud alleged the corruption involved “price markups” during the project’s construction phase.
