In a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese here on Wednesday, he stated that strong relations between the two nations will build trust and readiness to support each other during difficult times.
"In Indonesian culture, we have a saying, 'when we face an emergency, it is our neighbor that will help us,'" Prabowo remarked.
Prabowo stated that Indonesia and Australia cannot choose their geographical positions. Therefore, cooperation and goodwill are key to maintaining a harmonious relationship as neighbors.
As part of both countries' commitment to enhancing friendship, Indonesia and Australia have concluded a key treaty for cooperation in defense and security.
On the same occasion, Prime Minister Albanese stated that the treaty signals a new era in the Australia-Indonesia relationship, which, according to him, has been built based on friendship, trust, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to peace and stability in the region.
"This treaty will commit Australia and Indonesia to consult at a leader and ministerial level on a regular basis on matters of security to identify and undertake mutually beneficial security activities," he remarked.
He also affirmed that he plans to visit Indonesia in January 2026 to formally sign the new treaty.
