Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto departed for Sydney, Australia, from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport on Tuesday to meet with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

“President Prabowo is departing for Sydney for a tête-à-tête with Prime Minister Albanese,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said.

During the one-day visit, the head of state is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Albanese and attend a state ceremony hosted by Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn. Prabowo will also take part in several other meetings focusing on cooperation in trade, investment, education, and industrial partnerships.

According to Wijaya, the visit also serves as a reciprocal gesture following Prime Minister Albanese’s trip to Jakarta last May, a day after his re-election as Australia’s leader.

Accompanying the President on the flight to Sydney were Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono.

Previously, Minister Sugiono said that both leaders would discuss efforts to strengthen cooperation in various sectors, particularly in the economy and people-to-people exchanges.

Prabowo and Albanese are also expected to review existing collaborations between Indonesia and Australia. However, Sugiono did not provide further details on specific agreements or initiatives that might result from the talks.

“What was discussed at the head-of-state level was general in nature, mainly related to economic cooperation,” he noted.

The Foreign Minister confirmed that the state visit would last only one day, as Prabowo is scheduled to return directly to Indonesia afterward.

Following his trip to Australia, Prabowo is expected to welcome Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Jakarta.

Prime Minister Albanese visited Indonesia on May 14–16, 2025, for a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo, choosing Jakarta as his first overseas destination after being re-elected as Australian Prime Minister.

Before his trip to Australia, Prabowo had completed a series of international engagements, including attending the 2025 APEC Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, from October 30 to November 1, and the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 26 to 28.
