Law Minister Supratman Agtas said Indonesia is calling for a workshop on intellectual property, focusing on royalties from music and media content generated or distributed by global AI platforms.
Indonesia is preparing the “Indonesian Proposal,” which will be discussed at the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) session at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva next December.
The document, officially titled The Indonesian Proposal for a Legally Binding Instrument on the Governance of Copyright Royalty in the Digital Environment, outlines Indonesia’s push to promote economic fairness for creators and the creative industry in the digital era.
Beyond royalty issues, Agtas highlighted continued ASEAN-Japan cooperation, particularly in developing legal frameworks in civil and commercial matters.
ASEAN member states also conveyed their support for the effective implementation of the ASEAN-Japan work plan.
The meeting also reviewed proposals submitted by Japan's Minister of Justice Hiroshi Hiraguchi, including program initiatives under the ASEAN-Japan Work Plan in law and justice, criminal justice, and intellectual property seminars.
These initiatives were considered crucial to addressing shared legal priorities in the region.
The gathering marked an important step in strengthening cooperation in law and justice and deepening the ASEAN-Japan strategic partnership.
