Speaking in a meeting related to the TFFF and the Tropical Forest Investment Fund (TFIF) in the Blue Zone, Belém, Brazil, expert staff at the ministry, Haruni Krisnawati, emphasized aligning existing mechanisms with national priorities to ensure effective implementation.
According to the ministry's statement here on Sunday, the meeting followed the TFFF and TFIF launch on November 6, 2025, and included representatives from Brazil, Indonesia, Germany, Norway, and France.
Indonesia praised Brazil as the TFFF initiator and welcomed the global initiative as a means to mobilize funding for tropical forest protection.
“Indonesia underscores that the mechanisms under development must remain aligned with national priorities and existing climate frameworks to ensure effective and sustainable implementation,” Krisnawati said.
She added that the government is currently coordinating internally across ministries, led by the coordinating ministry, to discuss governance and institutional structures for the TFFF that best serve national interests.
“This process is essential to ensure alignment with national policies, avoid overlap with existing institutions, and clarify roles and responsibilities,” she explained.
Indonesia also highlighted its National Forest Monitoring System (Simontana) as the foundation for tropical forest monitoring.
Adjustments and harmonization continue in methodologies, including definitions, data sources, reporting, transparency, and verification, to ensure full alignment with TFFF mechanisms and eligibility criteria.
Indonesia looks forward to continued dialogue and close collaboration with all partners in refining the design of TFFF and TFIF, reaffirming its commitment to ensure the initiative delivers tangible impacts on tropical forest protection while maintaining alignment with national systems and priorities.
