"Public kitchens and health services were set up in both disaster zones to provide ready-to-eat meals and rapid medical check-ups for affected residents," the Head of Distribution and Utilization of Baznas, Saidah Sakwan, said on Monday.
In Cilacap, Baznas opened public kitchens, provided basic medical services, and offered logistical support for the joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team.
This assistance is also expected to help residents in need of health assistance after being exposed to severe weather conditions and prolonged emergency situations.
"In Garut, Baznas has also established a public kitchen, preparing hundreds of meals daily for residents and volunteers, and is offering health assistance to those unable to access medical care due to road closures," she noted.
Field health services are also targeting the elderly, children, and other vulnerable groups needing immediate checkups to prevent diseases linked to humidity and severe weather, Sakwan added.
"Furthermore, Baznas is ensuring the provision of clean water and sanitation facilities for residents to prevent this emergency from escalating into a larger health crisis," she remarked.
According to her, the presence of public kitchens and health services is a crucial intervention during the emergency response period, particularly when logistics and access to formal healthcare facilities are disrupted.
"We hope that the synergy between Baznas, volunteers, the local government, and the community will continue to support the optimal running of humanitarian relief. Baznas will be present to accompany residents until the situation returns to normal and their basic needs are met," she emphasized.
