Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Immigration and Corrections Ministry stated that 27 foreign nationals from China suspected of being part of a cybercrime syndicate face deportation from Indonesia.

Director of Immigration Intelligence, Police Commissioner Agus Waluyo, stated in a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday that the foreign nationals were handed over from the Bekasi Police to the Bekasi Immigration Office.

"The 27 foreign nationals will be subject to immigration administrative action in the form of deportation to China. We are collaborating with the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta, and the Chinese police will then follow up," he said.

The Head of the Bekasi Immigration Office, Anggi Wicaksono, explained that the 27 Chinese nationals were initially arrested by the Bekasi Police, West Java, at a luxury home.

At the luxury home, Wicaksono explained, the foreign nationals created an atmosphere resembling a Chinese police station by displaying various banners. Their modus operandi was to call Chinese citizens while posing as police officers.

"The victims were in China. They called Chinese citizens in China, pretending to be Chinese police officers, and then demanded money," Wicaksono said.

After an investigation, Wicaksono said that there were no Indonesian victims and then referred the case to the Bekasi Immigration Office.

The 27 foreign nationals were subsequently detained. Currently, the Directorate General of Immigration is coordinating with the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia to ensure the case can be followed up in accordance with the laws of that country.
