Head of the Baturusa-Cerucuk River Basin Management Center (BPDAS) in Bangka Belitung, Widiastuti, in Sungailiat, on Tuesday, said that 16,000 seedlings were distributed free of charge to community forest farmer groups for the restoration of critical forest areas.
"The productive plants we distributed to the community were fruit seedlings, and 100 percent of them were given to the community," she explained.
In addition to distributing seedlings, she said, her office successfully developed a simple nursery and distributed 150,000 trees to the community.
The strong uptake of aid by the community, she said, demonstrated the enthusiasm for planting trees to restore the land.
The BPDAS working area covers 1.6 million hectares, with approximately 208,000 hectares of critical land, according to 2024 data.
"To restore the critical land, we are actively involving various parties, including local government agencies, communities, and other interest groups," Widiastuti said.
Several community forums, such as the regional mangrove working group and the Bangka Belitung Green Ambassador, are among the partners of the Baturusa–Cerucuk BPDAS that actively campaign for nature conservation in of Bangka Belitung, she said.
